Revitalized Medvedev Wins First Title in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

His defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

He rescued 4 initial chances in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
