Putin Assures Steady Oil Deliveries to the Indian Nation in Defiance of Washington Pressure

Amid a unambiguous message to the United States, President Vladimir Putin stated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia is prepared to maintain “continuous” supplies of energy resources to India. The announcement came during a summit where both heads of state met in New Delhi and affirmed their bilateral ties were “resistant to foreign coercion.”

A Statement For the Western Countries

Putin's comments, made on Friday, seemed to be targeted at Washington, that have tried to urge New Delhi into reducing its longstanding relations with Moscow. This comes is in response to earlier Washington's moves, notably additional import duties on India due to its purchase of Russian oil.

“Moscow remains a reliable supplier of energy resources and anything needed for the development of India’s industry,” Putin stated. “Moscow stands willing to persist in securing the steady delivery of fuel for the booming Indian economy.”

The Indian leader, though he did not mentioning oil directly, supported the focus by saying that “secure fuel supplies has been a robust and crucial foundation of the Indo-Russian alliance.”

Defying US Interference

Prior to the talks, during a television interview, Putin had challenged US interference over India's dealings with Russia. Putin stated, “When Washington has the right to buy our uranium, how can you deny India claim the identical right?”

The visit marked his first visit to India following the start of the war in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi undertook a clear attempt to display that the personal rapport between the two leaders was undisturbed.

A Personal Reception

In a unusual gesture, Prime Minister Modi personally greeted Putin upon his arrival. They shared a warm hug akin to old friends before enjoying a closed-door supper on Thursday evening.

Modi later described India's partnership with Russia as “a beacon” and said it was “based on shared respect and deep trust.”

Expanding Defence and Economic Ties

Friday's talks yielded multiple important deals across military and trade relations. A major outcome was the signing of an strategic roadmap that runs to 2030, which aims to double mutual trade to a hundred billion USD annually by the target year.

The leaders also vowed to reshape their defence ties. Even as Russia continues to be India's biggest exporter of weapons, the volume has diminished lately as India has sought widen its supply base.

Their communique emphasized plans for the collaborative manufacturing of sophisticated weapons platforms, though direct mention of systems like the Sukhoi Su-57 were omitted.

Ultimately, Moscow and Delhi affirmed that amid the “current complex, strained, and volatile geopolitical situation, Russian-Indian ties remain strong to outside forces.”
