Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
